Boling, Texas — BRC Ranch is honored to announce the acquisition of the SSS Brahman herd, preserving the breeding program established by the late Dr. Charles W. “Doc” Graham, one of the most respected figures in Texas agriculture.
Dr. Graham, who passed away in June 2025 at the age of 92, built an extraordinary legacy as a veterinarian, cattleman, feedyard owner, entrepreneur and visionary. While many knew him as the founder of Southwest Stallion Station and a leader in the equine industry, those in the Brahman breed also recognized his lifelong commitment to producing practical, functional cattle. Throughout his career, Dr. Graham became one of Texas agriculture’s most influential leaders, earning numerous honors including recognition as a Texas A&M Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Texan in Agriculture.
The SSS herd has been carefully managed for decades, with longtime cattleman Phillip Ray playing an integral role in the program’s success over the past twenty years.
For BRC Ranch owners Brandon and Rachel Cutrer, the acquisition carries a deeply personal significance.
Since 2017, BRC Ranch has supplied the ranch’s herd bulls, including legendary bulls like 259, Boomtown and Stockman making their home at SSS. This created a close relationship with Dr. Graham and Phillip Ray. We enjoyed every visit to SSS, delivering a new bull, dropping off our steers at Graham Feedyard, or just enjoying a BBQ lunch with Dr. Graham and hearing his great stories.
Both Dr. Graham and Mr. Ray have been foundational supporters of BRC through their encouragement and mentorship. They never missed a BRC sale or event, and they most certainly NEVER missed being part of our inner circle at the Houston Livestock Show, which was always followed by a phone call with Dr. Graham about how happy he was for all of our championship wins. And, of course the conversation was sprinkled with lots of colorful commentary (and a few cuss words).
While the cattle are important, it’s these close friendships that mean so much to us and created such a personal connection to this herd.
“This isn’t simply the purchase of a cow herd,” said Rachel Cutrer. “It’s the responsibility of carrying forward a program that Mr. Ray and Dr. Graham spent decades building. We intend to honor that trust by preserving these genetics, respecting the foundation they created, and continuing to build upon it for future generations.”
“Truly, not a ranch I’d rather hand them off to… you love this particular herd as much as me and Doc do,” said Phillip Ray, after the purchase.
Since using BRC bulls for so long, nearly every animal in the herd carries our bloodline. We are especially excited about the group of young females sired by BRC Boomtown.
BRC Ranch considers it both a privilege and a responsibility to ensure the SSS Brahman herd legacy continues.
And on a personal note…we think these two would be VERY happy about this “deal.” They were grand friends, loved getting together and sharing stores, loved us, loved our girls, and ALWAYS loved a good cattle deal!!!
