BRC Genetics Take 9 Championships at the 2024 Ark-La-Miss Fair

September 30, 2024

The 2024 Ark-La-Miss Open Brahman Show, held on September 28 in West Monroe, Louisiana, brought out the best in Brahman genetics from the tri-state area, with nine winners carrying the BRC bloodline in either the sire or dam. These victories reflect the power, precision, and excellence of BRC genetics, which continue to make their mark on the Brahman industry. Under the skilled eye of Judge Dr. Joe Mask, these champions emerged victorious, reinforcing the strength of BRC’s influence in modern Brahman cattle breeding. While we personally did not attend this show, we were so happy to see the many customers of BRC rising to the top class after class. We appreciate your business and your confidence in using BRC bloodlines in your program.

Here’s a closer look at the 2024 Ark-La-Miss Open Brahman Show winners who carry BRC genetics:

Grand & Intermediate Champion Gray Female: MISS HC QUINN 180/3

  • Sire: +M2 BRC CAPTAIN 518/1
  • Dam: +MISS WCC VIOLET 217/6
  • Owner: Herzog Cattle

The Grand Champion Gray Female, Miss HC Quinn, continued Captain’s winning streak, combining his genetics with the power of +Miss WCC Violet, creating a female with undeniable balance, femininity, and breed character. This combination of BRC / M2 / Watkins genetics is a great cross and a fun way where friends can collaborate on breeding really top cattle.

Junior Champion Gray Female: GB STEPHANIE 20/2

  • Sire: +M2 BRC CAPTAIN 518/1
  • Dam: LADY H BARBIE MANSO 319/2
  • Owner: GB Ranch
  • Exhibited by: J&L Cattle Services

Another exceptional Captain daughter, GB Stephanie, claimed the Junior Champion title, adding to the impressive collection of wins for BRC Captain progeny. Take note once again of the BRC x Heritage cross in the winners circle. We have seen tremendous results when customers (and us) mis the BRC x Heritage bloodline and again, it’s fun to work together with like-minded breeders. This is a happy win for BRC / Heritage / GB Ranch.

Senior Yearling Champion Gray Female: MISS LPC 249

  • Sire: +MR. V8 279/7 (P)
  • Dam: MISS LPC 114
  • Owner: Camp J. McCall
  • Exhibited by: IS Ranch Fitting Services

Miss LPC 249 brought home the Senior Yearling Champion title, showcasing the strength of 279 in creating polled cattle. 279 is one of our legacy sires that was bred by us, but is an older bull so he carries the V8 brand since he was bred before we left V8 Ranch and created BRC. This female is bred by LPC, who we also collaborate closely with in breeding programs.

Reserve Senior Yearling Champion Gray Female: 79’S MISS 70/23

  • Sire: MR. V8 365/8
  • Dam: MISS V8 895/8
  • Owner: 79 Cattle Company
  • Exhibited by: J&L Cattle Services

79’s Miss 70/23, with her dam Miss V8 895/8 bred by BRC, exemplifies the continuing legacy of BRC genetics in producing exceptional females. The 895 cow is another older cow that was bred by us, but branded V8 since she was raised during the time we branded with Dadaw’s brand. Her maternal line traces back to the legendary cow 103, known for producing champions like Margaret 254.

Calf Champion Gray Female: MISS 5H JOSIE 5/4

  • Sire: +M2 BRC CAPTAIN 518/1
  • Dam: +LADY H CLAUDIA MANSO 515/3
  • Owner: Brynn Harris

It’s exciting to see young heifers getting in the winners circle and this one is once again, a great blend of the BRC x Heritage bloodline. Captain on the top side and Lady H Claudia on the bottom side has been a great mating for the Harris family and we are so happy for their success.

As we move into the bull show, several of our customers brought home banners! Here are detailed results.

Intermediate Champion Gray Bull: 79’S MR 18/23 (P)

  • Sire: +MR. H PRIDE OF MADDOX MANSO 684/8
  • Dam: MISS V8 916/8 (P)
  • Owner: 79 CATTLE COMPANY
  • Exhibited by: J&L Cattle Services

This polled bull is a great combination of 79 Cattle’s breeding vision and incorporating Heritage x BRC bloodlines. The sire is the legendary Pride of Maddox and the dam, Miss V8 916/8, is another female that was bred by us but branded V8 before we left V8 Ranch and started BRC. This dam is 100% BRC breeding top and bottom, being a daughter of 279.

Reserve Intermediate Champion Gray Bull: EP SIR RAU’S HANDSHAKE 2

  • Sire: MR. V8 968/7
  • Dam: EP LADY JO ANNA 1/1
  • Owner: Charles Eddie Payne Wilson

Charles Eddie Payne Wilson and Sir Rau’s Handshake are continuing to bring home the banners. This Reserve Intermediate Champion is a son of Mollie Cutrer’s bull, Mr. V8 968/7, a bull known for producing functional cattle with excellent growth and structure. 968 is a legacy sire that was bred by BRC but carries the V8 Brand since he was born during the time we marketed under that brand.

Senior Yearling Champion Gray Bull: MR. 5H BRIXTON 4/3

  • Sire: +M2 BRC CAPTAIN 518/1
  • Dam: +LADY H CLAUDIA MANSO 515/3
  • Owner: Brynn Harris

Carrying the sought-after BRC Captain 518/1 bloodline, Mr. 5H Brixton showcased the balance of power and refinement that defines the Captain offspring, earning him the Senior Yearling Champion title. This bull is a full brother to Brynn’s heifer that was previously named calf champion.

Reserve Calf Champion Gray Bull: MR. 5H FINN 7/4

  • Sire: +M2 BRC CAPTAIN 518/1
  • Dam: MISS 5H JADE 7/1
  • Owner: Brynn Harris

Another standout Captain son, Mr. 5H Finn proved that BRC-sired bulls are dominating across all age categories, taking Reserve Calf Champion honors.

The 2024 Ark-La-Miss Open Brahman Show was yet another platform where BRC genetics demonstrated their superiority. From bulls to females, young calves to senior yearlings, BRC’s influence was undeniable, and the next generation of champions is already on the horizon. Congratulations to all the exhibitors and owners who showcased these incredible animals – we are proud to have our genetics play a part in your success!
