You know you’ve got a special kind of bull when he makes waves way outside his traditional territory.
This week, BRC Johnny Brahman 299 proved that greatness speaks every language—even in non-Brahman country—by topping the Western Illinois University Livestock Judging Team online fundraiser sale with a $1,275 per unit semen bid, purchased by Tom and Laurie Barker of Texas.
Yep. You read that right.
A Brahman.
In Illinois.
Topping the sale.
And we are here for it.

“Johnny is an Absolute Gangster”
That’s the direct quote from the Western Illinois judging team when they reached out to BRC a few weeks back. After visiting our ranch earlier this year before Houston, the team had the chance to see Johnny in person—fresh off his big Champion Bull at Houston win.
And their words? Well, we couldn’t have said it better:
“Johnny is an absolute gangster Brahman that our past two teams have had the honor to see in person. Without a doubt, one of the best animals we have had the opportunity to see during the year.”
So when they asked if we’d be willing to donate a semen lot for their fundraiser sale to help raise money for their upcoming travel season, we didn’t hesitate. This next generation of ag leaders is hungry, sharp, and hardworking—and that’s something we’re always proud to support.
From Texas Roots to Midwestern Records
The fact that Johnny topped the WIU sale is a moment that shows the power of Brahman genetics reaching across borders and turning heads in places you wouldn’t expect.
Western Illinois may not be known for Brahman cattle. But when the cattle are this good? People pay attention. And Johnny’s win proves it.
We tip our hats to Tom and Laurie Barker for the support, and to the WIU judging team for putting together such a great event—and for recognizing elite livestock when they see it.
Who is Johnny Brahman 299?
If you’re new here, Johnny is one of the breed’s rising stars:
- Champion Bull at the 2025 Houston Livestock Show
- Known for his powerful muscle, eye appeal, and swagger
- A standout in both the show ring and the pasture combining BRC’s high power show line with Partin’s rock-solid maternal line.
- The kind of bull that gets remembered—for all the right reasons.
And now? He’s also the Brahman bull that topped a sale in Illinois.
Supporting the Future of Livestock Judging
At BRC, we’re all about investing in the future—and there’s no better example than backing livestock judging teams. These programs build the next generation of ranchers, evaluators, and industry leaders. And we’re proud that Johnny played a role in helping this team hit a fundraising high point.
Here’s to the students chasing their goals—and the bulls – and ranches – breaking expectations.
