BRC Ranch is proud to announce that ranch manager Lyn Castaneda was selected to be part of the inaugural Angus University, hosted this week at the American Angus Association® headquarters in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The Angus University Herdsman Bootcamp brings together new members, emerging leaders, and ranch managers from across the country for intensive training in breed programs, data systems, Association tools, and best practices for managing registered Angus herds. Sponsored by the Angus Foundation, the program also fosters valuable connections among participants and Association staff.
Castaneda, who oversees BRC’s Brahman, Angus, and Hereford breeding programs, says the experience strengthened both his technical knowledge and his vision for advancing BRC’s multi-breed seedstock strategy.
“Being part of the first Angus Herdsman Bootcamp was an incredible opportunity,” said Castaneda. “The Angus breed has such a strong legacy of leadership and innovation, and learning directly from Association experts gave me a much deeper understanding of the tools and resources available to help our customers succeed.”
During the multi-day program, attendees participated in workshops on registration systems, genetic evaluation tools, herd management strategies, and the day-to-day processes behind conducting official Association business.
“My goal is always to bring the very best practices back to BRC,” Castaneda added. “As we continue expanding our Angus herd and building a top-tier Brahman x Angus F-1 program, this training helps ensure that we’re operating at the highest professional standard.”
BRC Ranch now maintains over 100 registered Angus females, complementing its nationally recognized Brahman program and growing Hereford division. The ranch aims to become the Gulf Coast’s premier source of multi-breed seedstock for ranchers building profitable crossbreeding systems.
Castaneda says the Angus Association’s hospitality made a strong impression:
“The Association staff were incredibly welcoming,” he said. “It means a lot to be embraced by such a respected organization, and I’m excited about the relationships and knowledge we’ll build as we grow our Angus presence.”
BRC offers Angus bulls and females for sale privately at the ranch. To learn more, schedule a visit to see our operaiton.
